Over the last ten years, FOC has focused on delivering fiberoptic cables to be used within various types of endoscopy applications. The other application markets that FOC cater include cardiology, molecular imaging, standard endoscopic type cables that are used for surgical headlights, analytical instruments that are used for RNA and DNA sequencing, also for applications involving ear, nose, and throat (ENT).
Another important factor that Kosiba stresses is the manufacturability of their product. Sometimes, companies design custom products in the lab, but large-scale manufacturing of the same is unrealistic. For this, he gives an example of a company that first worked with a competitor of FOC for 16-18 months that could not come up with a fiberoptic solution to be able to use fiberoptics in a vacuum-based application. FOC came up with a solution in three weeks. The prototypes were delivered in less than three months. They received a patent for the same in February 2018. “We have a very high level of engineered products that are designed for customer applications which is the main distinguishing feature that we bring to the market,” adds Kosiba.
